In re: I-A playoffs or classes?

The NCAA has often used in defense of their current I-A football playoff system (actually the lack of a playoff system) that it would make the season too long and would be a disruption of studies.  I’ve long thought this was ludicrous reasoning as every other level of football has playoffs and these are schools where the players are actually students.

I flipped on ESPN tonight to find Toledo playing Northern Illinois on a Tuesday night?  Tuesday night?  Doesn’t this interfere with studying and classes?  These are students who will actually need their degrees (most I-A players will as well)  But apparently they don’t need to study when there is money to be made by a Tuesday national game, likewise when there is money to be made from every bowl under the sun (insert a company name here .com bowl) which will prevent football from having a playoff.
