In re: Wind chill factor, is it just a bunch of BS?

I read an article a few days ago about the wind chill factor, how weatherman love to bring it up, possibly because it can sound so extreme. I hadn’t known what the number meant, but i figured it was how cold you felt if you had exposed skin. Anyway, if your interested in learning what it is and why it isn’t particularly useful read Wind Chill Blows.

  1. I walk through a really strong wind tunnel on my way to work, and knowing how the wind is going to affect the temperature is of some use to me. But I do agree, if you don’t travel by foot through a consistently windy area, then wind chill is a pretty useless measurement, since, obviously, wind speed varies from spot to spot.

It is a great ratings tool for the morning news though!
